The climate in Greece changes a lot, going from high temperatures to low temperatures. The coldest temperature is 32º F and the hottest was 99º F. These were both averages. The nights in Greece are usually cool. The climate of Athens permits outdoor activity year round and has had an important effect on the architect of the city.
Railroad construction began in the 1880s. This was a difficult task because of the rugged areas of Greece. Today, the extensive railroad system includes a narrow-gauge railway network in the Pelopónnisos. Public transport in Athens is heavily dependent on the often over crowded and sometimes unreliable bus network. Other major contributors in Athens include airplanes and subways.
